Monday: Survey

Today I am skipping Top Ten and asking if you would be so kind and participate in a survey we are doing for Match. As we are forming our business we would love to know what you (our clients!) really want. Please feel free to leave your comments anonymously.

 Survey Questions:
What type of design work are you looking for if you were to hire an interior designer?

What price range seems appropriate to design a room?

How much would you be willing to spend on interior design services?

What kinds of blog posts are you most interested in?

If I could help you with any tips or advice or shopping what would you most appreciate?

What would you like Match to offer you that we aren't currently?!

Don't be afraid to be completely honest! I know we are all on small budgets! Don't be afraid of writing too much or too little! I want this blog to be something that you love coming to each day and something you find extremely useful as you work on your own home.

 THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!Whitney

  1. Aw, I can't believe no one has commented yet. I stumbled on your site a few weeks ago when it was mentioned on another go-to and bookmarked it right away. Favorites:

    1. Videos of your lovely family shopping and having fun. We live in New York, but my husband is from Oakland originally, and your videos (literally) triggered me to look at real estate in the Bay Area, my go-to when feeling down on the city. I'm jealous!

    2. Before and Afters. Your own home and your friend's, more recently. Who doesn't love a makeover?

    3. Cool, affordable furniture online. What are sites/items/shops i don't know about already?

    4. I bet you guys would be good at Splurge vs. Steal posts -- love finding the pricey version on the cheap.

    Good luck!

  2. I second the splurge vs. steal and before and after makeovers. I also love ideas on how to mix disparate styles of furniture and art and make it all work.

  3. I agree with the sites/ items/ shops that could be new to try. Before and after photos are always so inspiring. I also think It's also cool to show behind the scenes to the before and afters:)

  4. What type of design work are you looking for if you were to hire an interior designer? I would be looking for assistance in picking paint colors, coordinating textiles in a room, and rearrainging furniture for better room flow.

What price range seems appropriate to design a room? I've never hired a designer, so it's hard for me to say. Maybe $50-$100 per hour?

How much would you be willing to spend on interior design services? I can't afford design services, but probably $200.

What kinds of blog posts are you most interested in? I love DIY and before and after posts.

If I could help you with any tips or advice or shopping what would you most appreciate? Picking paint colors! And the best place to buy good quality, inexpensive rugs.

What would you like Match to offer you that we aren't currently?! I'm new to Match, I think you guys are currently awesome!

  5. One more thing to add to the above comments, I'd love for you to provide sources or DIY info for some of your before & afters. For example, I'd love to know more about the light fixture/pendant hanging in the corner of the bedroom from your most recent post. Thanks!

  6. maybe some quick tips on general items in a space, ie "every entryway should have a mirror, chandelier, and table with a bowl for keys". something like that. or if there is a window behind my bed, how do I decorate it? or if my bed sits between two windows? just general guidelines for designer rules for a space, if there are any.

before and afters rock my world. especially yours.

  7. also, how do I find my style? I mean, I know what I think is beautiful, or classy, or sophisticated, and I know what I love in other people's homes, but how can I know what MY space should look like? any advice there?

also, on the before and afters, tell us what you did! I want to know why a desk looks so great in that space and why the room seems so much lighter happy. what did your client want in that room and how did you give it to them?

as for a budget, I think $500 for a bedroom was good. I would, however, like to figure out how to use what we have for furniture or figure out how to buy furniture (maybe thrift store?) that would make that budget more practical. furniture breaks the bank every time!!

  8. i love the posts you put up now. and i love before and after posts!

i wouldn't change much here. i like that you are sort of a fresh, personal take on blogs like apartment therapy, but cleaner... no ads, more personal. and great style!

if i needed an interior designer, i would pay a couple hundred just for their ideas and expertise. then, if they were to help with the implementation and execution of the style, i'd be willing to pay more. i guess i'm getting that number from what i would hope to get when friends ask me to help them design their spaces. it's so hard to say. some people are willing to pay out the nose. some people can't even afford to do design themselves {i.e. pick out their own decor and buy it}.

anyway, i say, keep it up. offer budget friendly solutions {like nate berkus does on his show}, but also, for those who are willing to spend the money, do some high end posts, too. no matter what you do, you will always infuse your personal style and life into it if you keep doing what you do... and that is the most attractive part about your blog, i think!

  9. Match follower from the beginning! I like you guys. (And your fam is good at advertising for you:) It's always nice when designers find cheap buys that look expensive. I would love to learn all about good lighting, because that makes a world of difference in all the pictures. It's nice to see personal things about your cute family. When you do show a designed room, pointing out where things are purchased and how much you thrift finds cost is super helpful. Great tips so far! Thanks!

  10. I like your Before & Afters - it would be interesting to me to know what the budget on furniture and art was for them. Could you provide a breakdown, including number of design hours for each?

If I were to hire a designer, it would be to provide help with 'finishing' a room. I have trouble layering colors and textures to make the room complete.

  11. This is a very late response but I figured I'd answer anyway.

What type of design work are you looking for if you were to hire an interior designer? If I were to hire a designer it would be for more 'permanent' choices like cabinets, whether or not to remove a wall, room layout, etc.

What price range seems appropriate to design a room? I have no idea. I think it really depends on the room and complexity. Maybe $250-500.

How much would you be willing to spend on interior design services? $250

What kinds of blog posts are you most interested in? The before and afters are great. But I realize there are only so many of those you can individually do. Inspiration pics and ideas on recycling what you already have.

If I could help you with any tips or advice or shopping what would you most appreciate? Info & ideas on repurposing items.

What would you like Match to offer you that we aren't currently?! n/a
